A Glossary of Common Omaha High/Low Terms

ABC
Any A-2-3 hand combination combination

Backdoor Draw
Occurs where a player needs the turn and river card to make a drawing hand. With players having four cards and the pot being split between high and low, this is a more common occurrence in Omaha 8 than other flop games.

Bicycle
A-2-3-4-5, the nut low hand in Omaha 8 and a five high straight for the high hand. Also known as a wheel.

Cheerleader
The hand of 2-4-6-8, named after the common cheerleading chant

Counterfeited
When one of the community cards duplicates a card in your hand rendering your hand useless or at least less valuable. A common occurrence when holding the nut low in Omaha High/Low.

Dangler
A card in an Omaha starting hand doesn't coordinate with the other three cards.
In Omaha Hi-Lo an example would be the 9c in the hand Ad-2d-3s-9c.

Dry Aces
Having the starting hand A-A with two other cards that don't connect or suit either Ace.

Freerolling
When you have a hand that will at least share the pot, but still has a chance of winning, you are said to be freerolling. For example, when you and an opponent are all-in with the nut ace-high straight, but you also have the nut flush draw with one card to come.
Commonly occurs in Omaha 8 when a player has a lock on one half of the pot and has a draw to scoop the other half.

Kill
In some casinos, when a player scoops a pot that is at least a certain amount, they are required to post a special kill blind on the following deal. The blind bet is called a kill and is in addition to the regular small and blind blind.

Nut-nut
In any high-low game, having both the best possible low and high is known as having the nut-nut. For example, you have the starting hand of A-2-6-7 and the board is 3-4-5-J-K with no flush draw possible. You have the nut low A-2-3-4-5, and a seven high straight for the nut high.

O8, O8B, OHL
All abbreviations for the game of Omaha High/Low.

Pot It/Bet Pot
A common term in pot-limit games of Omaha High/Low, meaning a player wants to bet or raise the size of the pot, the maximum bet/raise possible.

Quartered
Winning 1/4 of a pot, usually because the low half of the pot was split

Redraws
The situation of having a made hand that can draw something even better. A common situation is a player having a straight as well as having a flush draw.

Scooping
Occurs when a player wins both the high and the low portions of a the pot in Omaha 8.

Wheel
A-2-3-4-5, the nut low hand in Omaha 8 and a five high straight for the high hand. Also known as a bicycle.

Wrap Draw
A situation in which your starting hand consists of at least three, which combine with two cards of the flop to form five consecutive cards, so that a large number of cards on the turn or river give you a straight or nut low.
